Reflecting on Mobilize Women: Women & Politics

Reflecting on Mobilize Women: Women & Politics

What you need: a pen, a journal or some paper, timer, 30 minutes, honest and open mind

Try to use the full 30 minutes to complete the exercise: if you feel like you are running out of things to write down, let your thoughts flow freely and write whatever comes to your mind. This exercise is for you and you only.

Take 15 minutes to reflect and journal on the bullet points below:

  • The speakers on the Women & Politics session shared what led them run for office and pursue politics. What inspired you the most?
  • When you look at your own representatives or elected officials in general, do you see those that look like you, talk like you, love like you, or identify with you background? Why do you think this is the case? Do you think it is so for everyone?
  • 2020 has been a year of questioning and realizations around what is political and what is personal as our politics and human rights becoming every day conversations for most of us. Where should the line between political and personal be drawn? Why? Is it a privilege to be able to draw a line between what’s personal and what’s political?

Take 15 minutes to complete the exercise below:

  • With about 70 days left until the 2020 Elections, it is critical to educate yourself, be politically active, and engage in the efforts taking place in your community - regardless of your political views. Take this time to create a political engagement action plan, allowing yourself the time to get to know your candidates, understand how you can play a role through volunteering, donating, having conversations with those around you, or encouraging people to register to vote. There is something each and every one of us can do.

Remember, the more you continue doing these exercises, the more you will start understanding the impact of some large concepts on your own life. Consider taking some time to flesh out your thoughts and even bring it up to others who can help you make progress. If you’ve enjoyed the Women & Politics session and this exercise, don’t forget join us at the next session of Mobilize Women Week.
