*Can private profit making businesses actually achieve a social mission?
*Can development projects achieve financial sustainability?
Social entrepreneurship has been widely touted as one of the most viable solutions for the elimination of global poverty.
The HK O&C Alumni Society warmly invites Marie So and Carol Chyau, co-founders of Ventures in Development, a non-profit that supports social enterprises in China, to highlight and discuss these issues through experience gained from pioneering their two Chinese start-ups: Shangri-La Yak Cheese Trail and Shokay, a social enterprise that will bring yak down to the fashion industry as a new source of luxurious natural fiber.
Over Shangri-La yak cheese, a glass of wine and delicious canapes, Marie and Carol will share with the us personal anecdotes of how their team took a bright idea, experimented with academic theories and methodologies, and brought their goals to fruition through trial and tribulation from Yunnan, to Tibet, to Inner Mongolia via an exciting, intimate and exclusive interactive presentation.
Ventures in Development (ViD) is a social enterprise that seeks to elevate the lives of the poor through growing the spirit of entrepreneurship. Founded by Harvard Kennedy School graduates and winners of the 2006 Harvard Business School Business Plan Contest, ViD takes innovative approaches to solve social issues and applies traditional business skills to simultaneously achieve sustainable financial and social returns.
All members, friends and guests are cordially invited to participate in this special evening.
