Joe Morahan, owner of the Fat Tail Gallery and a former senior executive at insurance giant AON, is donating the use of his gallery for our event and will also be there to give some background information on himself and introduce the gallery! For all of you finance ladies, yes, the name of his gallery is a reference to the fat tail on the end of a normal probability curve and to his 27 years of selling catastrophe insurance. Light food and wine will be served.
Joe is a fascinating man whose successful career led him near the top at AON, literally as head of US Sales, and figuratively – with his office occupying the105th floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Joe was not in his office on September 11th, but he lost 160 friends and colleagues in the tragedy and it changed his life in no small way. Within a year, he left AON to pursue his interests in music and art and moved full time to Denver.
To learn a little more about Joe in advance of the event, check out this feature from the January 2009 edition of Denver Magazine:http://www.denvermagazine.com/culture/2008/12/risk-and-reward.
There will be a modest entrance fee of $15 in advance or $20 collected at the door. Net proceeds will be donated to AmeriCares (http://www.americares.org/) to help the relief effort in Haiti (while our original intention was to select a 9/11 charity, the recent devastation in Haiti seemed more urgent at this time. However, AmeriCares provides aid all over the world, including right here in the U.S. and did send an emergency medical team to the site of the WTC attacks). Every $100 of cash contributions enables AmeriCares to deliver more than $3,500 in emergency relief, including medicines, medical supplies, clothing, footwear, blankets and nutritional supplements. Please feel free to contribute more if you would like to support this worthy charity further.
Space is limited for the Fat Tail Gallery event, so please RSVP to Jennifer McPeek at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than February 22nd.
