“You must be black if your name is Latoya”

Overt racism is easy to identify. But what about implicit bias – soft prejudices that we all have, but of which we are basically unaware. In today’s heated social and global climate, this lack of awareness can have serious, even fatal, consequences. Bias is broad and deep, and subtly influences who we are, what we are, who we associate with, and how we unintentionally view and act toward others.
This discussion will take a deep dive into the subject, where participants will confront their biases and see how they - regardless of race, status, income or education - have been a victim of unconscious bias.
To encourage a genuine and open discussion, this conversation will take place in a safe space, where no comment or thought will be judged. There will be an exercise to complement the learnings.
FYI - Here is a clip of my appearance on Washington DC’s ABC affiliate on the topic -https://wjla.com/features/good-morning-washington/understanding-how-implicit-bias-impacts-everyday-life.
