The Akshaya Patra program currently feeds freshly cooked, healthy meals to 1.2 million underserved children daily in India. Economic necessities force many children to take up menial jobs instead of attending school. Akshaya Patra’s midday school meal program gives these children, especially girls, an incentive to come to school, stay in school and provide them with the necessary nutrients they need to help focus on learning. For many children this is their only complete meal of the day. It is the technology coupled with subsidies from the Government that lets us keep the cost as low as $14 to feed a child for an entire school year!!
