Athena Tacha was born in Greece and received M.A.s in sculpture (Athens) and in art history (Oberlin College), and a Ph.D. in aesthetics (Sorbonne, Paris). She settled in the U.S. in the 60’s and taught sculpture at Oberlin College, OH, 1973 – 2000, when she moved to Washington, DC (and became affiliated with UMD, College Park).
Since 1970, Tacha has done environmental sculpture and conceptual/photographic art, and has executed over 40 large commissions for public sites throughout the U.S.
She is represented in many museums, and has exhibited widely (2007 last solo show in New York), with a large solo exhibition at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta in 1989, and a traveling 40-year retrospective in Greece through 2010.
