Sustainability has roots in social justice, conservationism, environmentalism and other movements with long and rich histories. In the past decade the term has transitioned into the corporate vernacular, as business leaders start to redefine the corporate Purpose to include all stakeholders rather than only investors. While increased awareness has resulted in more corporate social responsibility reporting (CSR), the increased transparency has not resulted in lower carbon emissions, a more equitable social fabric or less waste being created.CSR reporting hasn’t been a proxy for sustainability progress. What can business leaders do to change this?
