Ellevate NYC Executive Coffee & Conversation: A Discussion on Inclusive Sponsorship with Jhaymee Tynan (VIRTUAL)

Join us online for our virtual Coffee & Conversation event held once a quarter via Zoom. Jhaymee Tynan will be discussing inclusive sponsorship and the business case for implementing D&I initiatives within corporations and prioritizing a focus on advancing women of color to the C-suite

There has been significant discussion in Corporate America about sponsorship, mentorship, and why both are critical to success for all leaders. While we have made progress, challenges still exist for women and people of color to secure mentors and sponsors for career advancement.

Research from McKinsey found that women who have networks and sponsors were more likely to be promoted and receive pay raises.

Only 26 percent of Black women feel they have the sponsorship needed to advance their careers; 57 percent of women of color, however, were less likely to quit a job in the first year when they have a sponsor.

Although members who participated in McKinsey surveys boasted above average scores for representation of women in leadership, women of color were largely absent from the highest levels in their organizations.

Mentorship and Sponsorship are often seen as the same relationship but even though the same person may play both roles, they are distinctly different roles for the mentor or sponsor and the person being mentored or sponsored. Jhaymee Tynan, Principal at Korn Ferry and Author of Inclusive Sponsorship: A Bold Vision to Advance Women of Color in the Workplace, will share her insights on the difference between mentorship and sponsorship. In particular, she will share why she is bullish on sponsorship to elevate inclusion in senior leadership, what makes a great sponsor, and more about her Sponsorship Manifesto. The audience will walk away with tangible ways to identify the right sponsors for their career and executives will understand how they can step into sponsorship as a leadership competency.

This is for you if you:

  • Are an executive/senior leader in your organization
  • Want to build relationships with other senior female executives & senior leaders
