Workshop: How to Confidently Tell People “What You Do” and Be Remembered

Having a crisp, jargon-free description of who you are is vital to making strong connections in your professional and personal life. We’ve all been there, someone asks you to share a bit about what you do and you freeze. Where do I begin? How can I explain my complicated job in a way this person will understand? What will this person care about and what do I want them to walk away with knowing?

It’s called by many names; elevator pitch, elevator statement, power statement. Some people think that a statement like this is only useful for salespeople who need to pitch their products and services. But you can also use them in other situations. Besides creating one for what you do, you can use the same framework to introduce your organization to potential clients, partners or customers. You could craft one to sell a new idea to your team lead, or to tell people about the change initiative that you're leading.

This workshop will provide the framework, tools and real-time practice to help you never hesitate again. We will start with sharing communication best practices and some tools and examples to get you started. Next, we will have you craft your own statement and get real-time feedback from your Ellevate peers.

With some iteration, you will leave this event with a strong easy-to-understand statement of who you are that can easily be modified depending on the audience, objective and situation.
