Givology “Make Your Mark on the World” Interactive, Outdoor Art Exhibition at Union Square Supports Education Worldwide
Union Square Park (Manhattan) will be the location of Givology and Jubilee Project’s first interactive, outdoor art exhibition, “Make Your Mark on the World” from 1-7 PM on Friday, June 17, 2011. The event benefits innovative education projects and underprivileged students served by dozens of Givology partners throughout the world. The outdoor event features a giant mural of the world map with an interactive component where guests are asked to place a fingerprint in a location they wish to support. Guests will also be treated to live music, free samples from sponsors, drink tickets for exclusive drink specials at local bars, and many giveaways. Givology’s New York events have raised over $30,000 net profit, directly supporting education worldwide.
NEW YORK, New York (5/18/11)—Union Square (Manhattan) will be the location of Givology and Jubilee Project’s first interactive, outdoor art exhibition, “Make Your Mark on the World: Interactive Art Exhibition” from 1-7 PM on Friday, June 17, 2011. All proceeds from the event will benefit Givology partners that work in under-served communities to create innovative and sustainable education projects.
Respected graphic artist Joseph Kilrain has created a large mural of the world map, and during the exhibition, you are invited to contribute to the art work by placing a fingerprint on the map where you would like to help educate a child. Our sponsors and supporters will make pledges to donate money for each fingerprint and Givology will send that money to the location(s) they choose. Givology has set a goal to collect 500 pledges in order to raise $10,000.
Jubilee Project, a non-profit which focuses on creating videos that inspire change, will film stories from guests about small acts of kindness that have changed their lives and feature them in an impactful video. The video along with the final artwork complete with fingerprints will be featured in an art exhibition hosted by both Givology and Jubilee Project in July.
Givology’s previous events in New York have raised over $30,000 net profit and garnered support from over 800 attendees in the fashion, finance, consulting, media/entertainment and non-profit industries. Past sponsors have included Diageo, Nuvo, Marc Jacobs, Polo Ralph Lauren, L’Oreal, Kiel’s, Jack Spade, Arbitrage, Blank Label, Hudson Terrace, Warby Parker, Zog Sports, Princeton Review, and local New York retailers. For this event, many distinguished labels, companies, and individuals have pledged to sponsor each fingerprint placed on the mural for between $0.03 and $0.15 per fingerprint.
The free event is being held outdoors at Union Square Park in the South Plaza near the George Washington statue. Donors will receive free t-shirts and giveaways. Guests will also be treated to live music, free samples from sponsors, and drink tickets for exclusive drink specials at local bars.
Givology is an online non-profit marketplace improving access and quality of education in the developing world. Utilizing a P2P platform, Givology directly and transparently connects individual donors with needy students and education projects in the developing world, facilitating micro-donations from Internet users to innovative education projects, students and NGOs. As of February, 2011, Givology has raised nearly $60,000 through online donations. For more information about Givology, please visit www.givology.org or contact Gina LaFleur (email@example.com).
About Jubilee Project
The Jubilee Project makes videos for a good cause. Our vision is to make entertaining videos that will empower, enable, and inspire others to do good as well. This idea was born out of the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake in January 2010. Jason and his friends decided to busk in a New York subway station and they made a video of it that raised over $700 for Haiti earthquake relief.
Encouraged by the result, since then we (Jason, Eddie and Eric) have joined together to continue making videos for a good cause. Jason does consulting with Bain, Eddie creates videos for the Obama campaign and the Department of Education, and Eric is a student at Harvard Medical School. Our diversity of backgrounds allows us to bring a variety of experiences to the table, but what unites us is our passion for social justice and filmmaking. But The Jubilee Project is more than just 3 guys and one camera. The work we do goes beyond us and certainly requires all of us together, united, with a common goal of doing good.
