Empowerment Circle - Fireside Chat with Peg Moertl

This is the first of our series of Empowerment Circles.   These are intimate fireside chats with women trailblazers in our community.  

We start with Peg Moertl.  Peg is a results-oriented, creative leader with over 45 years of experience in corporate, government and not‑for‑profit executive management; a proven communicator, including interpersonal, community-building and media skills; a self‑directed strategist with unusual enthusiasm and vigor for meaningful community change, corporate growth and sustainability through effective systems; a subject matter expert in program development and reporting utilizing local, state, federal and private capital sources; and an effective leadership coach and mentor.

• Now a Vistage chair helping executives grow strong and effective organizations, Peg was President and CEO for two established financial intermediaries where she succeeded long-time founders and led corporate transitions that involved cultural and structural change while managing bottom line growth and mission focus.
• Joined Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) as President in February 2019, following a 26-year CEO. OCCH is an independent non-profit affordable housing financial intermediary with a mission to advance the preservation, production, and management of affordable housing through collaborative partnership and innovative thought leadership. In two years, she and the OCCH team raised and invested more than a $1 billion in private corporate equity and public and private debt capital for Low Income Housing and Historic Tax Credit properties across several states.
• Came to OCCH from HCDC, a non-profit economic development agency that grows jobs and the economy through innovation incubation, small business lending, and development services. Peg followed the 35-year founder and initiated the organization’s first strategic plan. HCDC is the largest SBA 504 lender in Ohio and Kentucky, operates a 90,000 square ft. business incubator and serves as the contracted economic development arm of Hamilton County.
• Served as Senior Vice President of Community Development Banking at PNC Bank for nearly 15 years in roles of increasing responsibility, leading teams originating community development loans and investments, grantmaking and sponsorships, and directly managing staff across the Eastern, Midwestern and Southeastern US. As Community Development Operations Manager, Peg worked closely with CRA Compliance and Corporate Social Responsibility on compliance, programming and reporting.

Previous Director of Development at the City of Cincinnati and Executive Director of Women Entrepreneurs Inc., she also founded, served on or chaired boards of numerous local, regional and national community and economic development and human service companies. Current engagement includes Cincinnati Development Fund, Bethany House, ULI District Council Advisory Board and the Greater Ohio Policy Center Policy Committee. Board service is concentrated in executive, finance and audit, loan and investment, policy and DEI committees. Peg was recognized as one of the Urban League of Greater Southwest Ohio’s 2023 Lions, Columbus Business First’s Power 100 in 2019 and 2020, Cincinnati Magazine’s 2019 Most Powerful Business Leaders, a Cincinnati YWCA Career Woman of Achievement, and among the Top 15 Ohio Women Business Leaders, along with honors from many organizations. In 2024, she is co-chairing the YWCA Career Women of Achievement luncheon.
