Vision Boards!
It’s always a good time to create a vision board.
What is a vision board? According to an article at Oprah.com, a vision board is a visual representation of your goals.
From the article: “There are really no rules when it comes to vision boards, since it's about crafting something that will inspire you to realize your dreams and goals on a daily basis. Some vision boards focus on a singular idea, while others look at the bigger picture of what you might want the future to look like.”
And, yes, the effectiveness of vision boards is based in science. Psychology Today mentions that mental practices (like visualization) can increase motivation, confidence, and even motor performance. “Seasoned athletes use vivid, highly detailed internal images and run-throughs of the entire performance, engaging all their senses in their mental rehearsal, and they combine their knowledge of the sports venue with mental rehearsal.”
The recommended practice to define and achieve your vision as listed in Psychology Today:
- Establish a highly specific goal.
- Imagine the future; you have already achieved your goal.
- Hold a mental "picture" of it as if it were occurring to you right at that moment.
- Imagine the scene in as much detail as possible.
- Engage as many of the five senses as you can in your visualization.
- Who are you with?
- Which emotions are you feeling right now?
- What are you wearing?
- Is there a smell in the air?
- What do you hear?
- What is your environment?
- Repeat and combine with an affirmation (e.g. “I am courageous; I am strong,” or to borrow from Ali, “I am the greatest!”).
We may want to create a vision board to help us gain clarity on what we want now or where we want to be in five years. Or we may want to create a vision board because we aren’t quite sure what the future could look like for us.
It doesn’t matter. Create a board that reflects you and the future that you want to see.
We’ll use our time together to create a vision board virtually using Canva on our laptops, tablets, or phones at home.
We’ll spend the time talking about our dreams, goals, and ideas while we put those thoughts on paper.
Running late or can't stay until 6:00pm? No problem! Come when you can and stay as long as you are able. Appetizers, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will be on hand.
Our co-host this month: Serendipity Labs.
