Didem Altop is the Managing Director of Endeavor Turkey, part of a global non-profit organization supporting high-impact entrepreneurship in emerging markets as a catalyst for economic development. Prior to joining the Endeavor Global network, Didem was involved in management consulting on social and business entrepreneurship. She has worked with Turkey’s leading holding companies to promote and design Corporate Social Responsibilty strategies and has also worked with Turkey’s leading non-profit organizations on capacity-building campaigns. Didem serves as a board member of the Third Sector Foundation of Turkey (TUSEV), to support civil society development through regulatory reform, non-profit capacity-building and promotion of philanthropy. Didem is a founding board member of the Corporate Volunteer Council, coordinating private sector volunteerism in local community initiatives and as subject matter expert resources for non-profit organizations. She is also a board member of Junior Achievement, promoting entrepreneurship education for high school students, and a trustee of the Turkish Volunteers for Education Foundation, a nationwide network of after-school learning programs for which Didem designed a campaign to help them reach more than 1 million underprivledged children aged 6-16. Prior to shifting her career focus to CSR and the non-profit sector, Didem worked in emerging market business development for Lockheed Martin Mission Systems, Shared Medical Services (SMS), MCI Communications and Electronic Data Systems (EDS). Didem also has management consulting experience on business process reengineering, total quality management and ISO certification. Before earning her MS in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University with a concentration in strategic planning and entrepreneurship, Didem worked for The World Bank on trade reform and privatization for Algeria, Morocco and Turkey. Her undergraduate degree is a BA in International Relations and Development Economics from The Johns Hopkins University.
Nakiye Aydan Boyacigiller is Dean of the Faculty of Management at Sabancı University in Istanbul, Turkey. Born in the US and educated in Turkey, France and the US, her research, teaching and leadership activities all reflect her interests in enhancing the effectiveness of multicultural work groups and cross border collaboration.
Professor Boyacıgiller’s research on cross cultural management has appeared in leading academic journals, including the Journal of International Business Studies, Academy of Management Review, and Research in Organizational Behavior. In addition to academic journal publications, her research has been published in book chapters including Handbook of Global Management, International Business: An Emerging Vision and The Global Mindset. Her on-going research is a large-scale effort involving four primary researchers from around the world, entitled “Organizational Competitiveness: Exploring the Roles of Human Resource Management and Organization Culture in Multinational Corporations,” funded by a National Science Foundation. An award winning teacher, Boyacıgiller edited Crossing Cultures: Insights from Master Teachers (with R. Goodman and M. Phillips). A member of six editorial boards, Boyacıgiller was elected a Fellow of the Academy of International Business in 2007.
Dr. Boyacıgiller received her doctorate from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, her MBA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her BA degree from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey. She has taught at San Jose State University, the Anderson School at UCLA, the Haas School at University of California, Berkeley, the Stockholm School of Economics’ Institute of International Business, Bilkent University, and Boğaziçi University. Boyacıgiller has held leadership positions in several professional and academic organizations including most significantly her role as VP Programs for AIB (2002-04), International Management Division Chair, Academy of Management (1996-97) and Advisory Board memberships in the Cyprus International Institute of Management, Turkish Society for Quality and Make a Wish Foundation, Turkey.
Eser Selen is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work encompasses performance art, installation, video and sound delving into the transitivity of body’s conditions of existence, its limits both spatially and corporeally. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Arts at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey and Masters degree and PhD in Performance Studies at New York University, USA with her dissertation entitled “The Work of Sacrifice: Gender Performativity, Modernity, and Islam in Turkish Contemporary Performance.” She has exhibited, performed and, presented nationally and internationally with installations, performances, and seminars at galleries and museums including Contemporary Art Museum (Istanbul), Aksanat (Istanbul), Floor Dance Theater (New York), Ram Gallery, (Rotterdam), Kasa Gallery, (Istanbul) and Atelje 212 Theatre, (Belgrade). Other than presentations made at national and international conferences, her work appeared in such journals as Gender Place and Culture, Women & Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory, International Journal of the Humanities and Gündoğan Edebiyat. The catalogue of her second solo exhibition at the Akbank Art Gallery (Istanbul), titled Work-by-Work was published in 2006. She currently an Assistant Professor and teaches at the Communication Design Department at Kadir Has University Istanbul, Turkey.
Dr. Gulden Turktan is the President of KAGİDER. After graduating from Business School of Bosporus University with a BA and MA degree, Dr. Gulden Turktan has post graduate degrees from New York University and Marmara University. She holds MBA, M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees. Her career starts as a research assistant at New York University. She later joined a textile conglomerate as the Head of Investments. She worked as Board member for a hotel chain, Martı Resorts. She spend 18 years in various executive positions in the local organization of ABB, a worldwide Swiss Swedish engineering company, as head of HR and Industrial Relations, Head of Legal Affairs & Compliance, Head of Sustainability and Investments. She has worked as Deputy Country Manager, Board Member and Vice Chairperson of ABB Turkey. Dr. Turktan is currently the General Manager of a Swiss company in Turkey. She also owns a boutique hotel, Gliss Hotel & Spa in Bodrum, in the south of Turkey.
Dr. Turktan is the Head of Work Council of TUSIAD for Employment and Social Security System. She is one of the founders Turkey’s Women Entrepreneurs Association KAGIDER and she is currently a Board Member at KAGIDER. She has served at the International Investments Association of Turkey four years as the Board member and Vice-Chairman of the Board.
Dr. Turktan gave numerous lectures, speeches and presentations in Turkey and around the globe on the topics of entrepreneurship, basic structures for success in the corporate world, profitability, sustainability, ethic values and leadership on the behalf of a number of international organizations.
