ACTION Dinner: Thinking about International Conflict
With Joan Link, Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order
With simultaneous international conflicts making daily headlines in the media, it’s easy to feel powerless or perhaps block it out all together as something immaterial to our lives.
Yet how do we try to make sense of it all? Can the international community truly reduce the incidence and effect of conflicts?
What is the impact of chemical warfare in one country on the rest of the world, and does increased militarisation of warring countries affect our lives here in the UK?
The London Chapter of 85 Broads presents an ACTION Dinner evening with former British Diplomat, Joan Link LVO. During a career spanning over three decades in the foreign service, Joan spent seven years negotiating the Chemical Weapons Convention and set up a new department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to increase its understanding of conflict prevention, peacekeeping and international policing.
Joan will be sharing her personal experiences on the common causes and effects of international conflict, what actions are feasible for the international community, and the effects of conflict on women and the impact of women on peacekeeping.
