In January 2011, Pepal, in collaboration with the Leadership Trust, is launching the Uganda Women’s International Leadership Challenge. The programme will support a cross-cultural exchange of skills and perspectives by teaming professional women from across the globe with influential female community and NGO leaders in Uganda. Each participating Ugandan NGO is invited to select 2-3 women leaders to attend the programme, and to identify an organizational challenge to tackle during the programme. These leaders will work with their international private sector peers to resolve the real-time organisational challenge.
Over the course of seven days, participants will be taken through a highly participative process. The project work will be accompanied by first-class executive training that will build leadership capacity, develop confidence and self-awareness, and give participants the skills needed to work effectively within a cross cultural, cross-sectoral project team. The formal training component will be contextualised by preliminary field visits to the local NGO project sites and scheduled time for the teams to discuss challenges and progress projects with senior management of the NGOs.
The programme aims to attract and polish women leadership talent from within Uganda and to strengthen the organisations within which they work, thereby boosting the cadre of rising female leaders. Through bringing together individuals from different sectors to work on concrete projects, Pepal aims to provide a powerful learning experience and make a measurable difference on the ground.
