About the speaker
May Xue, current CEO of premier contemporary art institution UCCA in the 798 art district, is leading UCCA to become the first non-profit, non-government foreign owned institution in China. Graduating from the Shandong Tourism College in hotel management, she went on to attend the Goett Institute in 1996. Upon completion she joined the Club Corp., the leading international operator of over 350 private clubs around the world. She served first as membership officer and was soon promoted to Director of the Capital Club, Beijing. Club Corp. re-assigned her to L.A.’s City Club to develop their membership department, after which she returned to the Capital Club and helped develop China Club Chengdu in 2007.
Ms. Xue left Club Corp. in 2007 to enter the art world, operating Imperial Connections, a PR and consulting firm for the arts. After an extensive stretch of high profile projects, May was recruited by Belgian baron and Chinese art collector Guy Ullens to serve as the Director of the UCCA Store. In her role there, Ms. Xue created a financially successful model of operation, while helping to establish a firm foundation for young Chinese designers and emerging Chinese artists through an innovative, commercial platform. Her success was awarded with her promotion to CEO in August of this year.

About the restaurant
Royal Smushi House is a Danish restaurant, cafe and design house, created by Rud Christiansen and Lo Østergaard, who also made The Royal Cafe in Copenhagen and Tokyo. The place will be open all day and serve fresh Danish bread from early in the morning with lunch and afternoon tea during daytime. In the evening, the restaurant and bar offer innovative Danish cuisine and drinks until late. All day, guests can shop design masterpieces from Georg Jensen or acquire exclusive clothes, bags, stationery and more in the Monocle Shop, from the global affairs, business, culture and design magazine. The unique style of the design is an integrated part of the venue’s identity.

The signature Smushi dish Smushi is a new and internationally famous culinary phenomenon – a traditional Danish smørrebrød (open faced sandwich) with a contemporary sushi twist. The fresh and delightful flavors have already made it hugely popular in Denmark and Japan, and now the Smushi is ready to win the hearts of people in China.
