One of the classic treks in the world, the journey to Machu Picchu is a “must do” on any adventurer’s list.
Before beginning the trek, we’ll take time to acclimate in and around the Sacred Valley at 9,600 feet. Our lodging in the Sacred Valley is a very comfortable mountain chalet with panoramic views of the Andes from every room. Lush gardens, a spa, and delicious food will allow for relaxation prior to our trek along the Inca Trail. From our hotel, we’ll explore the land of the Incas on day trips filled with culture, history and shopping at local markets.
Our five-day trek along the Inca Trail will take us through the heart of the Andes. We’ll cross exotic landscapes of grassland, alpine meadows, high jungle and cloud forest as well as hike over high mountain passes. Our highest pass at 13,700’ is called Warmi Wanusqa ― Dead Woman’s Pass! On this trek Quechuan porters will carry our gear. We’ll carry only light daypacks, leaving us free to enjoy the incredible scenery along the trail.
The climax of our journey will be at sunrise on the fifth morning of our trek along the Inca Trail when we arrive at Intipunku, “the gate of the sun.” Below us will be Machu Picchu, with its magnificent stone ruins and towering above us is Huayna Picchu. All around us will be the green jungle peaks of the Andes. It is a sight of wonder that will make you feel as if you are in ancient times with the spirits of the Incas. We hope you’ll join us on this unforgettable women’s hiking trip to Machu Picchu.
