Shoshana Clark - CEO of Turquoise Mountain, a non-profit organisation in Afghanistan that is rebuilding the historic old city of Kabul and the traditional craft industry.

Originally a Teach For America and charter school teacher in New York City and Boston, Shoshana has since spent six years living in Afghanistan working to revive and develop the traditional arts of the country and preserve the old city. In doing so, she and her team have rebuilt 92 traditional buildings, established a clinic serving 12,000 patients a year, and created the Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture training traditional artisans, and linking them with international markets.

The Turquoise Mountain Foundation was founded in 2006 at the request of HRH Prince Charles of Wales and HE Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,[1] to create jobs, skills and a renewed sense of national identity.

Shoshana will be speaking to us about how bending the traditional rules of social development projects can bring about great things.
