Being authentic: can you be your ‘true self’ at work? There are a number of different interpretations to “being authentic”. Does it mean being open and honest? Being confident? Showing Integrity? Being authentic can mean staying true to who you are, what you do, and the clients you serve. In a people-focused business environment, authenticity creates value and benefits for the people we interact with as well as offering improvements to our business. But how can this be achieved?

Authenticity begins with self-awareness or an understanding of who you are – your values, emotions and competencies – and how you behave and are perceived by others. The EY Women’s Network and Unity, together with Stonewall and Ellevate London would like to invite you to a panel discussion on Wednesday 11 February to explore the issues and challenges around being your ‘true self’ at work. How can we be authentic whilst being professional, and to what extent is this simply a matter of ‘common sense’? Where do we draw the line on being open versus being private? How does unconscious bias impact towards perception?
