Moore's Highly Anticipated Spring Fashion Show at The Barnes
Eveningwear Inspired by Work in its Collection
Sponsored by Century 21 department store, Moore College of Art & Design’s Spring Fashion Show, one of the most eagerly awaited spring events, will be held at The Barnes Foundation, housing one of the finest Impressionist collections in the world. Fashion Show 2015: An Evening at The Barnes will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 8 pm in Annenberg Court at The Barnes, 320 N. 20th Street in Philadelphia.. Tickets may be purchased online at www.moore.edu.fashionshow, in person at The Art Shop at Moore or by calling 215-965-8586.
The fashion show will feature innovative collections and designs by senior, junior and sophomore students, including childrenswear, resortwear and senior collections, along with the grand finale of eveningwear. The inspiration and muse for this year’s eveningwear is Amedeo Modigliani’s Redheaded Girl in Evening Dress (Jeune fille rousse en robe de soir) in the Barnes collection. “Even though the painting is from 1819, this woman could go to any evening gala and she would fit in there today,” Lewis said.
The 2015 show will kick off with junior class “resort wear,” combining men’s and women’s swimwear for the first time. With west coast surfer and east coast nautical themes, don’t be surprised to see models carrying fun props such as surfboards or beach chairs. Next, the show will highlight childrenswear by sophomore designers, with garments inspired by the theme of “Electric Zoo,” showcasing zoo animals and bright colors.
Senior collections by 21 students will range from menswear to sportswear. The grand finale of the show is the senior class eveningwear, with a black-and-white tuxedo theme inspired by “An Evening at the Barnes” and the painting Redheaded Girl in Evening Dress.
Awards announced at the show will include the Century 21 (C21) Best in Show and Most Saleable, both selected by Valentino Vettori, C21’s Chief Creative and Marketing Officer. Select students will also be presented with awards determined by guest critics: local couturier Frank Agostino, Agostino, Bryn Mawr; Ashley Scott ’10, swimwear designer for Cyn and Luca, NY; Alicia Abbas '06, designer for Nicole Miller; and Heather Hipsher, childrenswear designer for Lilly Pulitzer.
