Join us for an inspiring morning with Teresa Bruce (author and TEDx speaker), along with networking with professional women of Charleston. She will talk about Women and the Power of Reinvention.
Bruce considers Beaufort, South Carolina home, but between books she has a video-producing career in Washington DC. Life without permanent roots grew out of a nomadic childhood. Her first road trip down the Pan American Highway started at age seven and re-driving it thirty years later inspired “The Drive: To the End of the World and Back Again.”
Her first book ,“The Other Mother: A Rememoir,” won the Benjamin Franklin Medal from the IBPA for best memoir of 2014 and this statement from the late Pat Conroy: “Mark my words, Teresa Bruce will be one of the next great American authors.”
She comes from a background in public television. “God’s Gonna Trouble The Water,” a one-hour PBS documentary on Gullah music and culture, won the CINE Golden Eagle Award. John Leonard, in a New York Magazine review, called Bruce’s work “loving, contemplative and nuanced.” Lawrence Downs, of The New York Times’ Editorial Board, called her writing on traveling in Cambodia “Gonzo journalism -- without any of the usual macho bulls**t.”
Bruce graduated Summa Cum Laude from both the University of Missouri Columbia (MA – Broadcast Journalism) and Pepperdine University (BA --Journalism) before beginning her writing career.
