Join Ellevate OC to celebrate International Women's Day and Women's History Month.  We will be showing the documentary Miss Representation followed by a discussion on this timely topic at UCI's ANTrepreneur Center  located at the Banning House at UCI.

"The media is selling the idea that girls’ and women’s value lies in their youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in their capacity as leaders. Boys learn that their success is tied to dominance, power, and aggression. We must value people as whole human beings, not gendered stereotypes." - The Representation Project

Miss Representation includes stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists, and academics like Lisa Ling, Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Rosario Dawson, Jackson Katz, Jean Kilbourne, and Gloria Steinem. The film offers startling facts and statistics to leave audiences shaken and armed with a new perspective.

In response to overwhelming public demand for ongoing education and social action in support of the film’s message, Newsom founded the organization that has become The Representation Project in April 2011. Using film as a catalyst for cultural transformation, The Representation Project inspires individuals and communities to challenge and overcome limiting stereotypes so that everyone, regardless of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation or circumstance can fulfill their human potential.

Special Thanks to The UCI ANTrepreneur Center - Launching the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

UCI ANTrepreneur Center was founded at University of California, Irvine in 2014 with the mission of integrating entrepreneurial and innovative thinking into the UC Irvine campus and to UC Irvine students in starting new ventures. This center provides free mentorship learning opportunities, resources to help students scale their business, and connections to the greater Irvine entrepreneurial network.

The UCI ANTrepreneur Center aims to target students who:

  1. Just have an idea - we will help you funnel down your ideas into a simple problem, market, and solution, helping you create an initial road map.
  2. Have already formed a company - we will help you overcome obstacles and provide further resources to help you scale bigger.
  3. Are curious about entrepreneurship - we host entrepreneurial events everyday to help students get plugged into the entrepreneurship ecosystem!

UCI ANTrepreneur Center strives to not only help students develop entrepreneurial skills, but also to enable them to pursue success in their ventures.
