"The media is selling the idea that girls’ and women’s value lies in their youth, beauty, and sexuality and not in their capacity as leaders. Boys learn that their success is tied to dominance, power, and aggression. We must value people as whole human beings, not gendered stereotypes." - The Representation Project

As part of Ellevate Network's celebration of International Women's Day and Women's History Month, we will be hosting chapter-wide (national & international) screenings of Miss Representation.

Miss Representation includes stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists, and academics like Lisa Ling, Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, Katie Couric, Rachel Maddow, Rosario Dawson, Jackson Katz, Jean Kilbourne, and Gloria Steinem. The film offers startling facts and statistics to leave audiences shaken and armed with a new perspective.

In response to overwhelming public demand for ongoing education and social action in support of the film’s message, Newsom founded the organization that has become The Representation Project in April 2011. Using film as a catalyst for cultural transformation, The Representation Project inspires individuals and communities to challenge and overcome limiting stereotypes so that everyone, regardless of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation or circumstance can fulfill their human potential.

Directions and parking information for IPREO:

After you turn into Cannery Row off of 8th Ave South, continue straight up the hill for general parking. Please be sure not to park in any space that has a ‘Reserved Parking’ sign. If the top lot is full, exit Cannery Row by making a right back onto 8th Ave South and then a quick left onto Drexel Street. The additional parking lot will be on the left and surrounded by a black iron gate. The additional parking lot is marked with signs that say Cannery Row Parking Only. There is also a “pay by space” parking lot managed by Premier Parking directly across from Cannery Row if needed.

IPREO is located in the first Cannery Row brick office building. Look for the sign (IPREO) on the front of the building and enter through the yellow door marked with a large ‘3’. This entry will take you upstairs to the third floor. The IPREO office is located at the end of the hallway on the left - suite #307.
