The Power of Networking and Diversity in Leadership:
A Perspective from Three Women in the Exchange-Traded Funds Industry
Women are a minority in investment management in the U.S. with < 20% running mutual funds and holding CFA's. Networking organizations like Women in ETFs (WE), help connect and support women across their industry in sales, portfolio management, marketing, operations, and research roles across their industry, promoting advancement of women professionally and more diversity in their firms. Formed just five years ago, WE is now approaching 5,000 global members from Hong Kong, Toronto, and London, to Denver, Philadelphia, and Boston. WE chapters hold events for education, idea sharing, and philanthropy and include men (15% of members) in the cause. Their University Outreach program has shown students in leading business schools the range of roles and opportunities for women in the financial service industry. Hear how the power of networking can make a difference in encouraging more women to join and thrive in their industry and how companies with more women in leadership roles have benefitted in the eyes of their investors and customers.
