My name is Erin Cave and I am currently the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Thornburg Investment Management

What are some career challenges on your radar?

Navigating difficult personalities in professional environments while maintaining professionalism and solutions.

What project have you worked on that you’re most proud of? Why?

Creating a CSR strategy from scratch to inspire, engage and promote non-profit partners, employees and senior leaders around being stewards in our world.

We’d love to hear more about your career path. What led you to where you are today?

Degree in Business Administration, major in Marketing. Field Sales Job out of college for DeWalt Power Tools where I also supported local field marketing events, which I LOVED, then leveraged into a career of Event Planning in Finance. Supported sports marketing events in Chicago for LaSalle Bank (now Bank of America) for the Chicago Marathon, Volvo Ocean Race, Golf events, local events, media and press events, board retreats, etc. Non-Profit Special Events Coordinator at the Morton Arboretum in Chicago. Race Director & community programming. This was my foray into non-profit work and I LOVED IT! Have used all of these skills and experiences into my current job and past few jobs to execute corporate events as well as volunteer and non-profit partnerships.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Supporting an amazing community of people who are truly invested in each other's success, and the progress of the city/town/state I am in through non-profit work, volunteerism and DEI.

What legacy do you hope to leave through your work?

Volunteer networks and opportunities that fulfill everyone involved by giving back to others and bettering our communities. TIME, MONEY, VOICE all are powerful tools and levers in the world of philanthropy and volunteerism. Inspire others with your passion. Affect change where you can.

What is it about your job that makes you feel it’s the right fit for you?

Alignment of my personal core values with the mission, vision and values of the firm. LEED Gold Certified building; Community & Philanthropy; DEI. Giving back and finding ways to help others do that is incredibly rewarding, and I am grateful to be in a position to do this daily.

What would you say your personal superpower is?

Listening & Engaging others, lead with passion and enthusiasm - it is contagious.

What does success look like to you?

RESPECT and support of team members, colleagues and senior management. Also, work life balance where you can affect change and make a difference.

What advice would you offer future leading ladies wishing to break into your industry?

INTERNSHIPS, part time job offers, networking, volunteering and using their voice!

What is the best career advice you ever received?

Never come to the table with only a problem, always bring a solution as well.

What is one piece of advice you’d offer working moms?

Ask for help! Fight for accommodation you deserve in the workplace.
