I am a passionate pharmaceutical executive responsible for leading the human health division of Merck in Puerto Rico. My passion stems from my team and the end result of our work which is improving the life of our patients. To excel in a highly competitive and demanding environment we need to ensure that we have the best talent. As leaders we need to provide the tools and experiences that will elevate the competences of our employees. But more importantly we need to engage our people, ensure that they feel valuable and that their careers are meaningful.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

I was working abroad and recently moved back to Puerto Rico when I was immediately approached by members of Ellevate. I really felt identified with Ellevate and the positive impact on women's professional growth. I truly believe in the power of organizations like Ellevate in providing resources and opportunities to network with other professionals.

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

Over the 23 years in this field I summarized my learning as follows: 1) Intellectual curiosity. Do not settle keep learning, reading, informing your self. 2) Show confidence. Preparation is key, it will make you feel powerful. 3) You need self-assurance, be strong and resilient, challenges will always come so make sure you keep your north. 4) Cultural Intelligence, go abroad if you can! In a globalized business environment it is imperative to thrive in different environments addressing people's beliefs and cultural customs. 5) Engage your people, by winning their hearts you will win in business.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

In 2013 I was given the opportunity to lead one of the most important business division for the company. However, business was in bad shape and people were demoralized. Rolling up my sleeves and determined to transform the organization, I worked with passion and dedication together with my team. During the process I became a stronger leader, I was able not only to turnaround the business but also to gain people's commitment and trust as their leader. I grew cross culturally, and it is a valuable experience.

An example to my daughter, and to my son as well, that circumstances does not defines who you are but your actions do. That dreams follow by action gets you to live the life you have envision.

What is your morning ritual?

Mornings are my "me" time. I wake up at 5:00am, before the family, to have the time to exercise and mediate. Both practices have helped me maintain my energy levels throughout the day.

What is your favorite social media site? Why?

All of the social platforms have their purpose, what is important is how we use each of them to positively impact and motivate our connections and friends.
