I'm Laura Templeton, Founder & CEO of 30 Second Success. I help business owners, professionals, and sales teams develop their 30 second message for networking and video. For me it's about connecting with emotion and getting you the attention you deserve. I am currently working on scaling my business and becoming a known expert and public speaker in my field of creating unique attention getting brand messages and giving you the tools deliver them with confidence.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

Over the course of the last year I have gotten to know Margye Solomon and Tam Williams from the Philadelphia Chapter. These ladies are so full of life and so dedicated to women and our personal and professional development. Margye has been super encouraging to me, she totally gets when a gal needs a hug or a loving yet firm push in the right direction. It is because of these ladies that I want to be part of Ellevate (that and Squads!!) I love accountability and connecting with like minded women. Joining a squad seemed like exactly what I was looking for and the one thing that helped me make my final decision to join Ellevate. Can't wait for my first Squad!

How would you define your professional mission?

I am determined to take the fear out of networking and sharing your 30 second message.

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

Clarity, confidence, and commitment.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

The day one of my clients who would literally tremble, shake, and stutter her way through her 30 second message at a networking events stood stomped her foot and delivered her message with confidence and a smile that lit up the room. She deserved the standing ovation she received from the rest of the ladies who had witnessed her transformation. I cried and I still well up every time I recall this story, it keeps me going.

What are some career challenges on your radar?

Scaling my business. I love my one on one work with my clients and so do they, but there only so many hours in the day. I am developing group coaching programs that delver that same personal touch.

What does success look like to you?

Being able to live the life I dream of. My success may look way different than yours, as it should. Everyone's definition of success is different. Having the financial and the time freedom to do the things I want to do and go where I want to go, and help those I want to help that is what success means to me.

Is work-life balance a problem for you? What is one no-fail tactic you use to create balance?

I am blessed to have raised my babies and have an amazing relationship with my husband of 30+ years. We've learned to "go with the flow" (now I'm really dating myself with that one) and do what we want. We make our health and our time together a priority, but we support each other when work demands more of our time, because we realize that it is only momentary.

What advice would you offer future leading ladies wishing to break into your industry?

Get a mentor, hire a coach, surround yourself with inspiring women who will lift you up and call you out on your stuff. Don't try to do it all on your own. You need support to help you understand all of the moving parts that make up a business, especially the financial picture you are painting. Hang your dream board on your wall for days that make you want to give up. Hang a lifeline (a good friend's number) next to it. Trust your gut, you've got this!

What is the best career advice you ever received?

Do what you love, stop trying to please everyone.

What is one piece of advice you’d offer working moms?

The work will be there long after your babies have grown. Give yourself the grace and the space to make the memories you'll hold on to forever.
