Introduce yourself to our audience. Tell us who you are and what you are currently focused on.
I'm a lawyer specializing in Intellectual Property. I love working with female founders and female general counsels on innovative ways to navigate strategic goals and get out ahead of potential pitfalls.
Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?
My Squad! The group of women in my squad are amazing and our joint collaborations and sessions helped me through a lot of growth and development.
How would you define your professional mission?
Guide. I love guiding my clients and, frankly, anyone who asks!
What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?
Listening. It is so underrated, but to be a good lawyer you must listen. Clients tell us so much in simply the way they talk or they way they phrase a question. It is so easy as a lawyer to think we know everything, but clients don't usually want a legal lecture!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Working with early-stage founders. I love helping them navigate the murky waters and getting to help them find some clarity and focus. One thing at a time!
What is it about your job that makes you feel it’s the right fit for you?
Every day is so different and I get to learn about so many different areas of business. My clients' businesses vary from start-up clothing companies to multi-billion dollar private equity funds. I love getting to learn how each business and sector operates.
What is your morning ritual?
I love being the first one up at 6am so I have time for meditation, gratitude journaling and planning my day. Then I wake my two kids (ages 8 & 5) get them dressed, fed, and out the door with my husband by 7:15. After that, I take a deep breath and drink my tea while replying to client emails and team questions. Most mornings I work-out and then get to the office around 9:30, sometimes I have to skip my workouts for early morning commitments.
What does success look like to you?
Being the boss of my day!
Is work-life balance a problem for you? What is one no-fail tactic you use to create balance?
I work to dedicate certain periods of time to ONLY HUSBAND or ONLY KIDS or ONLY MYSELF. There are a lot of windows of time that are multi-tasking, but I carve out windows of time for the important aspects that need some real presence.
What is one piece of advice you’d offer working moms?
It is always worth it! There is no balance, its more like constant priorities and re-setting them at every turn, but I do think we are better for the juggle!
