Introduce yourself to our audience. Tell us who you are and what you are currently focused on.

Hello! My name is Kate Strauss and I'm a video producer at a digital education tech company called 2U! We take accredited masters programs and make them digital so you can get a degree from anywhere in the world. I'm also a writer and recently published a book "DASH Y" available on Amazon. I'm currently working on another poetry book and a memoir.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

I became a member because I wanted to get to know other professional women. I wanted to be able to use and be used in order to further careers and just offer support. My favorite Ellevate memory is the "Story Slam" hosted by Jaclyn where I got to hear some incredible stories from our members and present some of my poetry. It was amazing to watch women craft their own stories and share them with the group.

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

It takes someone who is detail oriented, a great project manager, and successful at working with all types of people and educators.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

It's actually getting the job I have now currently. I had been working in production for a few years and decided it was time to really push for a more senior position. I got a career coach and worked on getting a job for a solid three months before I was offered this position. Fun fact: the interview process was 7 interviews including a presentation!

What are some career challenges on your radar?

One challenge is figuring out how to find my strengths and how to best suit them to move up in my company.

What project have you worked on that you’re most proud of? Why?

I'm most proud of a course I worked on for Pepperdine's Mediation Masters program. It was a detailed program that included a lot of creative role plays that took a while to plan and execute. The course came out very well and flowed together seamlessly.

We’d love to hear more about your career path. What led you to where you are today?

I came out to LA to be an actor. As I was working towards that path I decided it would be prudent to also work in video production in order to understand that world better. I ended up being very skilled at producing and worked my way up from a PA to a Production Manager in a matter of a year. I actually decided to leave production for a while and ended up managing a small coffee shop. After a year there, I wanted to get back into production. That's when the job hunting started again. I still act, write, and create, but it's great to have a stable position.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Keeping students in mind always when doing my job is very rewarding. To make sure that everything we do is for the online student makes my job worthwhile.

What is it about your job that makes you feel it’s the right fit for you?

I really vibe with my professors that I work with. We all have the same goal in mind: to create a new experience for the online student that will help them get the most out of their education.

What is your morning ritual?

I immediately sit up in bed and meditate, and do some prayers to the universe and saying what I'm grateful for. Then I walk my dog, feed him, and do my morning pages. Morning pages are three pages I write every morning no matter how I'm feeling. Then I get ready :) That's it.
