Introduce yourself to our audience. Tell us who you are and what you are currently focused on.

I am an Architect focusing on Interior Architecture and the Design Director of I R D Design. I have been running this firm for the past 15 years. The tag line of the Design studio is ' Inspired in Design and Disciplined in Action'. We create inspirational design which is functional, usable, adaptable and connects with the user. Our design disciple has the ability to bring imagination into reality. My focus is to make 'design' all encompassing because impacts how we live. Our reaction affects our earth, we don't need 'fashionable' architecture, we need sensible architecture.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

Ellevate allows me to meet serious people from different professions who want to make a difference to women and the world at large. They are a group of committed individuals who want to excel and have the drive to be the cause for 'change'. I met a co-member who has encouraged me to think of my business as something which is beyond just passion.

How would you define your professional mission?

I believe 'design' has a profound effect on how people work, live and play. As an Architect, it is our responsibility to create 'sensible' design. My mission is to translate this message to the world. Diversity in Architecture is as important as diversity in the world.

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

Understanding Human Behavioral psychology (animate) and connecting the (inanimate) built spaces and combining them with the technical know-how of structure, services, software and material is a beautiful articulation of science and art.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

Opening my own design studio; starting with small refurbishment projects to designing the Middle East's largest University or being listed among 50 most influential Architects in the Middle East for 10 years continuously has been an accomplishment.

We’d love to hear more about your career path. What led you to where you are today?

I have always wanted to be an Architect; it is one of the few professions which marries art and science in a beautiful way. I wanted to teach Architecture but life took a different turn. I started working with a firm specializing in Interior Architecture and I fell in love with details and the intimate nature of the work; I thought it was my calling. I started this Design Studio to translate my vision of creating 'holistic' design and for 15 years it has been a journey.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

To see your imagination take shape.

What legacy do you hope to leave through your work?

I hope through my work and message, I am able to change the way Architecture as professional is perceived. The dichotomy of professional practice and teaching; the square foot architecture to living spaces; the developer model to habitable spaces needs to change. Our profession is noble and should not be an elitist fashion statement. Creating beautiful, sustainable living spaces is the message I would leave.

Who are your role models?

My role models are women who are able to excel in their chosen field of work and carry on in the face of adversity. Merry Streep, Leila Seth and my aunt (a Professor in Sanskrit) are my role models.

What would you say your personal superpower is?

My personal superpower is to be able to connect the 'dots' ; my ability to link seemingly disparate things and anticipate the cause and effect.

What is one piece of advice you’d offer working moms?

Learn to value your time. Your work ethics will pass on the next generation, so be mindful how you operate. Never believe that your work is less than any other person. Create your own value! Find a network of support systems which (who) operate in your absence.
