Introduce yourself to our audience. Tell us who you are and what you are currently focused on.

Hello Everyone, my name is Emma and I am the Founder and Managing Director of Mindfulness Dubai, an organisation which is focused on providing tools and techniques to help people in organisations cultivate greater resilience, EQ, empathy and leadership. We are currently working with organisations throughout the UAE and GCC providing mindfulness based programs. We like to work with a variety of organisations tailoring our approach to their needs and audience. Having pioneered the teaching of mindfulness programs to organisations in the GCC region, as we now move into our sixth year, we are now focusing on enabling current clients to further integrate mindfulness into their organisations and on helping new clients find the best possible approach for their teams, whether that be face to face, digital or a blended learning approach.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

I joined Ellevate because from the moment I showed up for the first meeting, I loved the people, the vibe, and the authentic level of support in the room. Ellevate is different from many other networks I have attended with it's focus on learning together and supporting each other. In terms of Ellevate successes or memories? Hmmm there are so many. Overall I would say that seeing this group consistently show up for each other and being part of that is the biggest success.

How would you define your professional mission?

To enable professionals to work effectively with their minds to gain the self-awareness and self-management skills to be able to get the most out of life, inside and outside of work. In today's world this has never been more important and in many ways, it has never been more challenging. My mission is to show people that it is possible to develop their mental muscles in ways that enable greater concentration, clarity, confidence and perspective. When we have the power to choose how we respond in any given circumstance, rather than being compelled by our thoughts and emotions, then we have acquired a significant superpower! :)

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

It takes a huge heap of dedication, resilience and persistence to build an organisation such as Mindfulness Dubai and an ability to continually open to new ideas, perspectives and learning. In terms of teaching mindfulness specifically, in addition to all of the above, compassion, empathy, patience and a genuine love of human beings and the imperfect human condition that each of us experience.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

The feedback from running mindfulness programs provides me with ongoing satisfaction that what we are doing is making a difference.

What project have you worked on that you’re most proud of? Why?

We recently rolled out an innovative mindfulness training program to a global multi-national through a blended learning approach. I am proud of this because of the way we worked closely with the client to produce a program that was right for their environment and team. The participation rates in the program far exceeded our most optimistic expectations. The follow up to the program then demonstrated significant impact in terms of positive behaviour changes and reduction in stress levels generally.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Meeting fantastic people. I truly love the interactions I have with clients, in particular when delivering a program. We share and learn from each other and this exchange of learning and connection is truly rewarding. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :)

What is your morning ritual?

Coffee at 5.30, then either weight training or yoga. Then reading something inspiring for 20 minutes followed by a 30-45 min meditation session. Does all of this happen every morning? No it doesn't, but it's the routine I work towards consistently as I know it sets me up fantastically for the rest of the day. This is made easier for me by the fact that I have 3 cats rather than 3 children. :)

What would you say your personal superpower is?

The ability to zoom out and take a broad perspective, coupled with a heavy dose of empathy and compassion.

What is the best career advice you ever received?

Don't take yourself too seriously, whilst being very serious about what you do and how you do it.
