Introduce yourself to our audience. Tell us who you are and what you are currently focused on.

My name is Sofia Maravich and I currently serve as the Senior Director of Client Success at my company, Nativo. To provide more background on my company, we are changing the way users consume content and interact with brands. We are enabling this shift by developing new technologies, data insights, and best practices that will power the next generation of media and advertising. In my current role, I am primarily responsible for client growth and retention across 400+ managed and self-serve clients. I work closely with Sales Leadership, Product/Engineering and Sales Ops (Planning, Content, Analytics & Ad Ops) to evolve product needs, improve departmental processes, campaign best practices and support for clients.

Tell us about your favorite Ellevate Network memory or success story. Why are you a member?

My favorite memory dates back to 2013 when the organization was still called 85 Broads. I was on the Board on the Pittsburgh Chapter and organized a panel of successful women in Pittsburgh who gave us advice about attending Grad School and advancing our careers. It was the first time I had done or attended something like this and I felt that I learned so much from a great group of women! Learning from others is what has kept me involved in this organization since then and what I enjoy most!

What qualities does it take for someone to be successful in your line of work?

The best Client Success Managers often possess great communication skills, an ability to readily learn new material, and effectively execute against a variety of tasks. They also have a balance of hard skills and soft skills, backed by a strong work ethic and adaptability.

What is one of your most memorable career accomplishments?

My most memorable career accomplishment was being promoted to run the entire Client Success team at my current company. I was hired in 2014 as the fourth account manager. Six months in to the role, I met with our SVP of Strategy to share a long-term goal of mine: to eventually oversee the entire Client Success team. I knew this opportunity would eventually present itself as the company grew and that my goal could be reached. He gave me great advice on the steps I’d need to take and the qualities that someone in this role would need to possess. I proceeded to follow every piece of that advice, proactively found other ways to contribute toward the goals of the team/ company and constantly asked for feedback along the way. When I started my career, I had a goal to oversee a Client Success team by the time I was 30 and I was very proud of myself for achieving that goal at 29.

We’d love to hear more about your career path. What led you to where you are today?

I was fortunate enough to have two experiences in High School that made me want to pursue a Client Service role in Advertising. The first was competing in a marketing competition through Bayer Corporation. The competition involved developing a marketing plan for the launch of a Bayer product in Italy. As soon as I started working on it, I quickly realized I loved every aspect of it.

Concurrently, I was introduced to a female VP of Client Service at a national ad agency in Pittsburgh (my hometown). She gave me extremely helpful advice on how to pursue a career in the field and suggested I follow the Account Management (Client Success) path.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is seeing goals being achieved - this involves everything from one my team members learning a new skill or advancing in their career to meeting business goals for my team set by the company.

What legacy do you hope to leave through your work?

I hope to show the business world that you can be a successful leader through kindness, intellect and ability. I also hope that I continue to positively impact the people I manage, ultimately leaving them with new or improved skills that continue to help them throughout their careers.

What is your morning ritual?

I love to wake-up early, workout, scan the latest news, get ready, eat breakfast and head to work. Working out gives me energy for the day and I really enjoy the time to myself in the morning. It gives me the time I need to mentally prepare for the day ahead and physically makes me feel better!

What advice would you offer future leading ladies wishing to break into your industry?

Start as soon as you can! Join Advertising or Marketing Associations in college, network with alumni, go to advertising industry events, follow-up with people you meet - even if it's a nice note to say thank you. This industry thrives on relationships and can be competitive. The more connections you make and relevant experience you get, the better off you will be when it comes to opportunities and advancement.

What is the best career advice you ever received?

No one is going to give your career to you, it's up to you to build it.
