Rita Gasalla and Her Architecture Firm Galöw Selected to Renovate A Luxury 5 Star Hotel in Madrid
Rita Gasalla is the CEO of Galöw, the architecture firm selected to renovate Hotel Puerta de America's lobby and its top floor where the Observatory and Skynight are located. The result is a truly innovative transformation of the space incorporating ecological solutions which are not only elegant in style, but also achieve impressive technical results.
The project represented a welcomed challenged for Galöw. Hotel Puerta de America boasts the work of three Pritzker Prizes, the Nobel of Architecture – Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel. Furthermore, Rita and her team had six weeks to execute.
Galöw delivered! The restaurant on the top floor houses the largest vertical garden in Europe at 70 m2 generating enough oxygen to support 70 people for one year. At the same time, this garden absorbs 49 tons of CO2 a year as well as particles of suspended dust.
Similarly, the lobby which is 15 meters long, showcases materials used in Spain for the first time. These state of the art materials achieve an antibacterial surface as it eliminates nitrogen oxide and sulfur among other compounds.
People spend 90% of their time in buildings. Given this, Rita views the union of architecture and wellness as her responsibility as an architect.
Rita is Co-President of the Ellevate Network Chapter in Madrid.
