Dr. Selena Ramkeesoon Speaks at Distance Teaching & Learning Conference

Dr. Selena Ramkeesoon presented a session on student engagement at the recently concluded 2021 Distance Teaching and Learning Conference hosted by the University of Wisconsin–Madison. This annual international conference emphasizes evidence-based practice, educational innovation, and practical applications of theories and research findings in the field of distance education and online learning.

Dr. Ramkeesoon’s topic, Engagement Strategies across the Generations: Fixing Broken Pathways with a Student-Centered Approach, covered designing and incorporating interactive assignments and student-generated content to motivate online learners. She believes “implementing multimodal strategies for Generation Z (Gen Z), millennial, and adult learners, which positively influence behavioral change is imperative for effective online learning.”

The session also explored the external and internal variables that affect multigenerational student engagement and performance. Dr. Ramkeesoon noted, “Gen Z, millennial, and working professional students expect to be active participants in their learning experiences. Using a student-centered approach to frame and package online content can motivate learners and strengthen engagement.”
