Ellevate Twin Cities Launches Online Giving Campaign, “The Kindness Project” Supporting Perspectives, Inc.

Access to Amazon wish list allows donors to directly benefit and impact the lives of local at-risk women and children.

MINNEAPOLIS (October 1, 2018) The Twin Cities chapter of Ellevate Network, the leading network for professional women, is hosting an online giving campaign, “The Kindness Project,” supporting Perspectives, Inc., an award-winning Minneapolis-based human service organization committed to serving at-risk women and their children. The giving campaign runs through October 30, with strong social media promotion to generate community awareness and encourage participation. Individuals and organizations can contribute to the campaign by fulfilling items from the organization’s Amazon wish list that will directly benefit the women and children it serves.

“I wish everyone could experience the stunned and grateful look on a mother’s face, coming from a homeless shelter, when she walks onto Perspectives’ housing campus – and, then, into a completely furnished apartment. To have a home that is filled with furnishings tells her that someone out there actually cares,” explains Perspectives President and CEO Jeannie Seeley-Smith. “The result is always eyes filling with tears, as for the first time in months or maybe years, she and her children feel safe. The Kindness Project is well named, as very little else provides the incentive to begin again more than a gift that is birthed in kindness and wrapped in serenity.”

For over 40 years, Perspectives, Inc. has provided resources and programs to address critical issues including homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental illness, poor nutrition, and lack of access to services for homeless and recovering mothers and their children. The Kindness Project giving campaign focuses on fulfilling needs for the organization’s Supportive Housing and Kid Connections programs. “It’s intrinsically rewarding to go to theAmazon wish list and select an item,” says Kindness Project Leader and Ellevate Board Member Beth Frost-Johnson. “And it’s easy – your gift gets sent directly to Perspectives, and is tax deductible.”

As part of the project, Ellevate Twin Cities has established a network of “Kindness Partners” to extend the reach of the campaign and generate awareness and support within the community. These partners include:

“We are so grateful to have a community of women at Ellevate who are passionate about supporting other women in all facets of work and life,” says Ellevate Twin Cities President Jen Swanson. “Our members want to support women throughout our community, and partnering with Perspectives allows us to extend that network of support through an organization that is fulfilling the lives of women and their children at such critical moments.”

About Ellevate Network

Ellevate Network is a global network of professional women committed to elevating each other through education, inspiration, and opportunity. We believe that when ambitious professional women get more opportunity — to have a voice in important conversations, to have a seat at the table where decisions are made, to steer our collective economic power towards that which we care about — it ultimately benefits everyone and leads to a more equal world. We do this by providing women with a community to lean on and learn from. Ellevate also works with companies committed to gender diversity and has a proven track record of changing business culture from the inside out.

About Perspectives, Inc.

Founded in 1976, Perspectives' early mission was promoting healthy lifestyles through community awareness about the societal and individual consequences of addiction. Today, the organization has grown into a multi-service agency with several award-winning programs – one of which is Minnesota's largest therapeutic supportive housing campus for recovering women and children.

Perspectives' programs assist recovering women in establishing healthy ways of living for both herself and her children through a holistic, trauma-informed model. This includes helping women maintain sobriety, stabilize their mental health, and increase awareness around nutrition. Other services include a full children's academic/social enrichment program, employment, and parenting reunification and skills building.

Perspectives Board of Directors and staff are rich in cultural diversity, knowledge, and passion. They understand the complexities and challenges of the population and they possess the resources and expertise to help change a family's direction. From administrators, financial professionals, licensed teachers, family advocates, and counselors, the programs are managed and implemented by some of the most skilled leaders in the Twin Cities.
