Ellevate Network Honors Giving Tuesday at Nonprofit Panel and Expo
Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, is increasingly embraced by companies committed to having a positive impact on the world and to setting an example of doing good.
Ellevate Network, a global professional women’s network, joins companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, and Gap Brands in leveraging social media and events to drive awareness of ways individuals can give back.
As a certified B Corporation, there are many ways a company can show that they are making a difference in the world, and Ellevate Network is changing the landscape of women in business by working with other organizations for a better tomorrow.
By celebrating #GivingTuesday, Ellevate Network is shining the spotlight on some of the most impactful nonprofit organizations by discussing the value of charity, how organizations can work together to address social needs, and what the future looks like in the business of “doing good.”
On November 17th, Ellevate Network hosted an event to bring together some of the most impressive nonprofits that are making a difference for women everywhere.
Featured at the event included Step Up Womens Network, ExpandED Schools, League of Allies, B-Corp, Inspiring Capital, SIFMA Foundation, Dress for Success, VolunteerConnect, BoardAssist, Girl Scouts of USA, JoyJ, and HerHealthEQ.
The speakers included Kris Maccini, Director of Social Business Care & Intelligence at MetLife and Board Member of Step Up; Rose Destefano, Senior B Fellow, B Corporations; Sharda Sekaran, Managing Director of Communications, Drug Policy Alliance; and Susan Fisher, Strategic Partnerships Chair, BoardAssist.
The group emphasized the value of your network and making mistakes when serving on a nonprofit board.
Kris spoke to this: “Think about your own network and see who you can leverage and value their advice. But there will be failure and learning on the job. And that’s OK.”
They stressed how important it is to donate money as a nonprofit board member, while also raising money on behalf of the board.
Sharda mentioned, “Asking people for money is never easy but it [serving on a nonprofit board] is a good way to learn that skill. And you should also lend your expertise to help them succeed.”
One of the most powerful lessons we walked away with is that by lending your time to a nonprofit, you’re working toward a mission you care about while expanding your network and your skill set.
Ellevate Network believes that working together is the key to making a difference this Giving Season and throughout the year. If you’re looking to give back this Giving Tuesday, learn more about the movement here.
